How to Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera

Photo shoot day! I had a photo shoot today for a project I’ve been working on (stay tuned!) and I want to share my top tips for feeling YOUR best on camera. People tell me all the time how they hate the way they look in photographs, that they’re not comfortable on camera, and that they never take good pictures. Here are my top tips for how to look and feel YOUR best the next time you’re in front of a camera.

  1. Wear something you feel good in – a good color, a good fit, whatever is flattering. Wearing pressed powder is a must to eliminate shine.
  2. Practice! Take different photos ahead of time either in selfie-mode or with a friend taking them. Figure out what works for you, and what looks good – so you go in prepared.
  3. When doing professional headshots, do some research and pick out some poses you like ahead of time. Ask the photographer to see the photos in the moment – so you can take some additional photos if you don’t like them.  This way you won’t be disappointed when you get them back.

Relax and have fun with it! If you’re enjoying it, you’ll look and feel confident.
