04 Jul Why Networking Never Stops (And That’s a Good Thing)
Chances are you’ve gotten to where you are in your career with the help of a few people – or maybe a wide, extended network of fellow professionals! Developing a network is one of the best things any of us can do for our careers – and it’s important to give it the attention it deserves.
Summer is the perfect time to do this! With things slowing down in the office and a little less at work – some of your time can be dedicated to checking in, sending a few emails and keeping your network in check.
So, here are a few tips for networking with purpose and making the most of your professional contacts.
- Don’t just reach out when you need something! Instead of just asking for something all the time – give back! Doesn’t need to be a big gesture – just sending an article every now and then, checking in to see how someone’s big event went, or just saying hi can go so far in nurturing the relationship.
- Taking someone to coffee to catch up takes very little time but can produce some amazing advice, food for thought, latest industry updates and maybe your next great opportunity! You never know!
- Network with individuals in different fields from yours. Sure, connections in your industry are crucial – but there’s a lot to be learned from those whose work might seem totally different from yours! The commonalities you find might teach you something new, and change your perspective for the better.
Networking is just as important as your job itself – do it wisely! It pays off and will continue to give back to you for years to come.
