16 May Work-Life Balance? Try Work-Life Harmony Instead
2019 has kicked into full gear and projects have fully ramped up. As we head towards spring, the weather is getting nicer and activities with family and friends are becoming more and more accessible. These are all wonderful things, but many of us will also begin to feel the tug in all directions that comes with balancing work life and home life.
The truth is, there’s no such thing as the perfect balance. It’s unattainable – and so many people spend time and energy beating themselves up over trying to reach this state of total equilibrium that doesn’t exist. Instead, aim for work-life harmony.
As much as we try, some weeks are going to be more about work, and others are more about family. This is OKAY. One area gets more attention as sacrifices are made in others. It’s not about finding an exact balance, but more about finding a harmony between the two that works best for you.
Everyone is entitled to his or her own choices, and designing their life in a way that makes them most fulfilled and happy. It’s not a one size fits all situation – so decide for yourself! I’m here to help you along the way.
Here are my tips for finding your version of work-life harmony, and accepting everything that comes with splitting your time.
Your Work-Life Harmony Checklist:
- Some weeks will be more about work, others will be more about personal life and family – and that is okay, there is no such thing as a perfect balance.
- Be patient with yourself while mapping out the right plan for you, it can take time but you will find what works.
- If something is not working, don’t force it! Don’t be afraid to change course if you need to.
- Don’t compare yourself to others – what is right for you may not be right for somebody else.
For you perfectionists out there – don’t put additional pressure on yourself! It doesn’t have to be perfect, your best is enough.
